Another Resource

Hey guys, check out this guy's work. I think some of it might fit into our style-concept a bit, but mostly it's interesting to see how far off the initial concepts can be from the final decision. I have to wonder how many of thse were given to other artists to fit into style, and how much of the style of the movie was based on a specific character design. Cool.

  1. I like this, and i was wondering who did the designs for Dispicable Me. Don't get me wrong, these are really awesome, I just think we may be getting too many conflicting styles. I think some of these can work, but next class we need to sit down and talk about what we want this to look like, and maybe redo the style guide.

  2. Yes, even more than that I think we should set up a comprehensive style sheet, as in THIS shape not THAT shape, THIS eye not THAT eye, etc, for each character if possible, but at least for one or two. A real breakdown of the style, not just references.

  3. I totally agree, clear definition of style will be important. We still have to make sure not to discredit someone's design just because it isn't in style. Maybe we could go over our thumbnails in class and if someone says it's good but not in style, they could sketch out a quick version of it more in style. I don't know if that would work, just a thought.

Love the website, the character design for Shrek looks so different from the final outcome!

  4. Word. Since I will not be there, I will take whatever you decide on. Though in contrast to Anna's comment, and not intending any malcontent, I think the point of this class is to make us come together as a group with an agreed upon cohesive style. We need to learn how to take our own style, have that contribute to the project, then lay off our own style enough to be able to draw in the style set forth by the group. I mean if I was hired to work on one of the Batman series, I would have to completely draw in that established style. Does that make sense or am I too off base?

  5. I understand and agree. I was just saying we all have different methods, but have to get to the same end. If the design is strong but we need to tweak things, lets tweak them in class so we can see instant results.

  6. I agree. The concept and the style are two totally different things. Your CONCEPT could be a frizzy-haired Tristran with glasses and a peg leg, but the style it's drawn in could be not on-par with the style of the project. It's easy enough to take that and re-draw it in style, without discrediting or losing the DESIGN of it. =P At least I think that's what Anna is saying!

  7. I think we confirmed today what the style guide and reference will be. They're separate, and they're dandy.
