i recomend sticking to just shapes in your first run of thumbnails ands sticking to like a 2h, hb, and 4b pencil for your three values. If you choose to do this don't press down on the pencil to get value, let the graphite do the work. This way you'll get a clear 3 tone thumbnail focusing just on composition, shape and value. Remember, when people see a drawing it goes shape, value, then detail. The iso stuff is awesome, and I think that does need the detail. If you're going to design the shops going into the square, you might want to think about first making them in silhouette to find shapes you like, then go to iso, and then the who layout in iso (maybe, just having a few iso buildings might be cool on the side) but yeah, awesome work, i just think you're trying to get too much detail in the layouts too quick. I had the problem too. If you just do shapes and 3 tones first you should be able to crank those out some what quickly.
